Lifeguards honoured for quick action that saved woman’s life

LARNACA’S district administration on Thursday honoured three lifeguards after they saved the life of a Bulgarian woman, who is a permanent resident on the island and the daughter of AEK Larnaca’s coach, in July.

Deputy district officer Odysseas Hadjistephanou awarded Andreas Kapatais, Eirineo Tsinikola and Kalliopi Mama in a modest ceremony at the district office.

The incident happened on July 22 at Makenzy beach when the three lifeguards were on duty. At around noon, Eva Toskouva was walking along a shallow stretch of beach when she began feeling dizzy and fainted, falling into the water. The lifeguards responded immediately, performing CPR, and also using a defibrillator.

According to the doctors at Larnaca general hospital the woman’s life was saved by the prompt action by the lifeguards.

During the ceremony, a tearful Toskouva thanked the lifeguards for saving her life.
