Injured in A&E queue scuffle

A POLICE officer was assaulted in a scuffle at the accident and emergency department (A&E) of Larnaca General hospital early Saturday after a patient insisted that hospital staff bump him up in the queue.

Police said that two persons walked into A&E at 12.55am and “strongly asked the nursing staff” to examine one of them immediately and ignore the queue.

When a constable on duty tried to calm down the pair, both Greek Cypriots, “one of them started cursing [the police officer] and pushing him,” police said. Within a few minutes, more police arrived and were also attacked by the two men. One officer ruptured is right Achilles tendon. Both men have been arrested.
