Teen in hospital after Good Samaritan act results in four-metre fall

A 17-YEAR-OLD student is in hospital from a fall after trying to gain access to a block of flats to help a stranger who had just been attacked and whose car keys were thrown into the premises of the locked building.

The student and two friends were in the courtyard of Saint Lazarus church in central Larnaca at about 7pm on Thursday when they saw a car smash into parked cars close by, police said.

It was being chased by another car, which also came to a stop and its driver, a 31-year-old man got out, punched the 53-year-old driver of the first car, grabbed his car keys and chucked them high up in the air. The 31-year-old then left.

The 53-year-old man told police he and his pursuer had issues. The students who watched the scene approached the 53-year-old and offered to help him retrieve his keys.

The building was locked, so the 17-year-old piled up some chairs and clambered on top to  reach a window, which was also locked. Then he lost his balance, falling four, police said.

The boy fractured some bones and is in Larnaca general hospital with post-traumatic amnesia. The 53-year-old was treated in hospital for minor injuries and later released.
