Low-cost carrier Flyniki coming to Cyprus in 2014

Low-cost airline Flyniki will begin flights from Larnaca to Vienna from January 2014, Hermes Airports said on Wednesday.

The new route will be inaugurated on Friday, 31 January 2014 and will include two scheduled flights per week, Mondays and Saturdays.  It is expected that by 31 March 2014 the airline will be adding an extra flight, which will be scheduled for every Wednesday. This is the first time that Fkyniki has included Cyprus in its flight schedule.

Commenting on the launch of Flyniki flights from Larnaca, the Chief Executive Officer of Hermes Airports, Wes Porter said: “We are delighted with Flyniki’s decision to include Cyprus in its programme. We welcome Flyniki and are confident that the travelling public will be delighted with both the affordable prices and the high level of service provided, as well as with the multiple options for corresponding flights offered by their network via Vienna Airport.

Hermes said that Flyniki’s presence in Cyprus would have a positive impact on attracting tourists not only from Austria, but also from the neighbouring countries of the region. The relatively small distance separating Vienna from big cities in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany is expected to be a good practical option for tourists residing in these countries to connect with Cyprus, it said. At the same time, travellers from Cyprus now have an alternative option to fly to major cities at low prices and to benefit from the Flyniki connecting flights via Vienna.

“This development proves that collective efforts and hard work can yield remarkable results which can boost our country’s tourism and stimulate the economy of Cyprus at this very difficult period of time,” said Hermes.
