Remand for rape suspects

TWO Romanian men aged 27 and 36 were remanded by Limassol District Court for eight days on Friday on suspicion of the violent rape and beating of a 37-year-old Polish woman during the early hours of Wednesday.

The first suspect had been arrested on Thursday afternoon when police stopped him in his car, which according to witnesses was the vehicle the victim had been seen leaving in, from a bar in Limassol.

After being questioned, the 27-year-old allegedly implicated his compatriot and allegedly told police that it was the 36-year-old who had beaten and raped the woman.

Police arrested the 36-year-old and following questioning, he told police that both men were involved in the crime.

“The 37-year-old mother of two was taken to Nicosia general hospital and operated on as she had suffered a fractured jaw and ribs,” head of Limassol CID, Ioannis Soteriades said.

She is in a stable condition but is still unable to give police a statement although Soteriades revealed he believed the case had been solved.
