Murdered man took five blows to the head

STATE pathologists confirmed on Friday that Angelos Phedonos, 46, whose body was discovered in the lobby of the abandoned Beau Rivage hotel in Larnaca on Thursday evening died from head injuries.
Phedonos, from the Nicosia suburb of Latsia, was reported missing from his family on Wednesday, police said. Reports have said he was spotted by a swimmer who wondered into the abandoned hotel’s premises. The hotel is close to the coast. Phedonos was found wearing a swimming suit, his trousers discovered nearby. No items were found in his trouser pockets, although his car, a grey Toyota, was found on a plot adjacent to the hotel.
State pathologist Nicolas Charalambous, who was one of the two men who performed the post mortem, said Phedonos took five blows to the head and carried other wounds elsewhere in his body. His sister identified the body late on Thursday night.
Police believe Phedonos had an appointment with someone. Authorities also believe he was robbed, Cyprus News Agency said.
Phedonos lived with his mother in Latsia and worked as a storekeeper at a pharmaceutical company.
Larnaca Tourist Board said on Friday that in addition to the Beau Rivage, lying abandoned for seven years on the Larnaca-Dhekelia road, there were three other abandoned hotels lying next to luxury hotels still in use.
Rubbish collects around those buildings and attracts those in society who are looking for a place to take drugs or alcohol, an announcement said. “As a result, it is no surprise that the abominable event took place at that particular space.”
The tourist board said that because the buildings’ owners have failed to respond to calls to refurbish the hotels, they should be taken down.
