Centre left in the lead in north elections

Unofficial results in Sunday’s early ‘parliamentary elections’ in the north give the centre-left Republican Turkish Party (CTP) the lead with 38.49 per cent.

CTP is followed by right-wing National Unity Party (UBP) with 27.16 per cent, and Democrat Party (DP), with 23.1 per cent.
The turnout rate for the vote was put at around 70 per cent.
If the final results turn out this way, CTP will have 21 seats in the parliament, UBP 14, and DP 12, leaving the parties in need of joining forces for a coalition to receive the mandate to form a government.
The elections were called early after the resignation last month of ‘prime minister’ Irsen Kucuk.
