POVEK to take legal steps over opening hours

SMALL SHOPKEEPERS’ union POVEK decided on Monday night to legally challenge a decree issued by the government allowing shops to stay open longer and on Sundays.

The decision was taken at a late meeting of the union. POVEK also concluded that they would seek an urgent meeting with President Nicos Anastasiades to present their positions and inform him that 99 per cent of businesses have not followed the new timetable.

The Labour Ministry issued the decree last Tuesday, which basically extends the special rules on opening hours for tourist zones to the whole country.
