One could say that in the past year, Limassol’s old town has become a vast sea of options when it comes to the trendy bars it has to offer. Developments on the bar scene have marked a gradual move away from the commercial style bars Limassol was once so boastful of and a new inclination to the alternative and unique.
Is it difficult for a new bar to establish its own identity in this new wave of the unconventional? Not for Melibar it isn’t. Original is the first word that comes to mind when describing this addition to the bar scene in the old town. Its name is inspired by the Greek word for honey, and the atmosphere and setting are indeed as pleasant and alluring as the sweetest spoonful of honey.
Through its pastel blue wooden doors, enclosed within a small space rests an array of stripy, multicoloured, high tables with black stools, green couches and a pastel blue bar with white stools – it’s bright, captivating, stylish and relaxing. As for the wallpaper, it is gorgeous in its minimalism – white, ornamented with the bar’s logo, golden bees.
Week after week, Melibar hosts a selection of DJs from around Cyprus including regulars DJ Alex, DJ Chris Blenda and DJ Salty Ballz. The sounds of funk, soul, rock and jazz are blended for the music lover’s ear and the fusion of genres makes Melibar a place for almost everyone. Upcoming events include special guests Basement Freaks, who have achieved explosive success in the world of funky breakbeats internationally. The event will take place on March 10 and entrance is free.
At Melibar you can order from a range of beers, drinks and cocktails, the average prices being €3-4 for beers, €6 for alcoholic drinks and €7.50 for cocktails. A range of signature cocktails is being prepared by the staff at Melibar and within the next couple of weeks they will be serving snacks such as platters and sandwiches to be enjoyed throughout the day. The current opening hour is 8pm, within the next couple of weeks to become 5pm and by April to become 10am, making Melibar more than just a place for a night out.
