Bar review: Ben’s Bar, Paphos

Ben’s Bar on the Tomb of the Kings road is a good place to go to enjoy a full English breakfast, a chat with friends or to savour a pint or a glass of wine after a hard day at work.

Proprietor Ben Hinton opened the family friendly bar in Kato Paphos in 2006, and it has become a popular haunt with both locals and tourists since.

Although the English style pub is situated on the busy tourist road, it is set far enough back from the road so that passing traffic isn’t a problem.

The interior has just received a new coat of a grey paint, while wood is almost everywhere in the interior and the bar itself is set to the front of the establishment. An outdoor area provides a welcome haven for smokers.

Drinks are reasonably priced – local beer or a glass of local wine are both €2, which won’t break the bank.

Open from 10am until late every day, Ben’s Bar has a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere and with an English breakfast available for only €2.95, it’s easy to see why this establishment is popular with overseas visitors.

“We do have Cypriot customers as well,” said Ben, “but most of our clientele is made up of people who live close by and holidaymakers.”

Hen nights, private parties and other functions are also catered for – mostly for the British expat market.

Ben can usually be found serving behind the bar and a wide range of cocktails and soft drinks is on offer. “Our most popular sellers are the Long Island Iced Teas and the Pina Coladas,” he said,

Food is available at Ben’s Bar from 10am to 4pm and international sporting events are shown on the bar’s big screen TVs.

This isn’t a place to go to show off your Sunday Best, but if you enjoy a relaxing and friendly atmosphere which caters for families, Ben’s is the place for you.
