Right on the heels of the Iannis Xenakis – in Memoriam International Conference, comes the Pharos Arts Foundation concert & recital series.
Over the past few years, the Foundation has organised over 300 concert and recitals. Among the artists who have given extraordinary performances and thrilled listeners are Grigory Sokolov, considered the world’s greatest living pianist, Joshua Bell, who is perhaps the most famous violinist of today and the legendary soprano Emma Kirkby.
On Wednesday, the concert & recital series continues with Javier Perianes, a rising star both in his native Spain and, more recently, much further afield. The young pianist, hailed as a “poet of the piano” by Switzerland’s Neue Luzerner Zeitung, has performed in concert series throughout the world at prestigious musical venues such as Carnegie Hall, Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw, Moscow’s Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the Shanghai Conservatory, and the Berlin Konzerthaus.
A prize-winner at major competitions, he has worked with leading conductors Lorin Maazel, Daniel Barenboim, Jesús López Cobos, Antoni Wit, Daniel Harding to name a few. Perianes has also received critical acclaim for his recordings on Harmonia Mundi of Schubert’s Impromptus and Klavierstücke, Manuel Blasco de Nebra’s keyboard sonatas and Mompou’s Música Callada.
Considered by critics as one of the outstanding interpreters of Spanish classical music, Perianes is particularly devoted to the music of his compatriot Manuel de Falla, having spent many months earlier this year working on a recording of De Falla’s Nights in the Gardens of Spain with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Josep Pons.
The recital programme will include works by Schubert’s Allegretto in C minor, selection from Book 1 of Debussy’s preludes and Chopin’s Ballade No. 4. As always concerts will be held at The Shoe Factory in old Nicosia and reservations are essential, due to limited seating. Hurry up and get your tickets while they’re still available.
