A CHARITY fun run will take place in Paphos next month, aiming to raise thousands for local worthy causes.
The third annual Spa Tonic fun run sets off from the harbour in Kato Paphos and people of all ages and all levels of fitness are being encouraged to enter.
“People can run, walk or stroll along the course; even bring a push chair or walk their dog for charity. We are hoping that every entrant brings at least €50 each in sponsorship, which will enable us to meet our target of €12,000 this year,” said Andy Carrington-Porter, one of the event organisers.
A €15 entry fee from each person will ensure that all of the event costs are covered. This includes those incurred from printed t-shirts, sponsorship forms and food.
Carrington-Porter said: “The way we can meet our goal is through sponsor money. We try to give every entrants a t-shirt, a bottle of water, a sponsorship form and entry into the post-run party, which will be held on Wave Dancer this year.”
The boat will remain in Paphos harbour for the party, and live entertainment will be provided by ‘Mid life crisis’.
Carrington-Porter said: “Last year the event raised around €10,000 for the Friends Hospice and this year we will raise money for two charities, the Peyia animal rescue club – PARC – and the children centre of activity. It takes care of kids after school hours and is a great place. It’s well attended, clean and well run.”
According to event organisers the day’s programme will kick of with a Zumba warm up with Debbie, a qualified instructor at 1pm. Particiapatrion will cost €5. Registration will take place at 2pm and then the fun run will commence.
“Also the municipality of Paphos is involved this year and we are grateful for their support,” Carrington-Porter added,
The run will start and finish at the harbour and will take entrants past the lighthouse and along the Paphos seafront.
“Most people who enter will be amateurs and non runners, although members of the Paphos running club and other athletic associations usually take part.”
The organisers would like full sponsorship forms to be handed in prior to the race. “We want everyone to come together and raise money for these deserving charities. Currently PARC are using their own vehicles to help rescue animals and we would like to buy them their own van. The kid’s charity really needs a new cooker,” said Carrington-Porter
The spa tonic charity fun run will take place on Saturday November 12.
