England sweep to series whitewash

England swept to a series whitewash over India in the fourth test at the Oval on Monday after Sachin Tendulkar had been dismissed nine runs short of a 100th international century.

Seven wickets fell for 21 runs on the final day, after Tendulkar and nightwatchman Amit Mishra (84) had added 144 for the fourth wicket, to give England victory by an innings and eight runs.

Off-spinner Graeme Swann, who had had little opportunity previously in the series, finished with six for 106 and had Tendulkar dropped twice off his bowling.

India relinquished their spot at the top of the world rankings when they lost the third test at Edgbaston by an innings and 242 runs.

APOEL hoping experience will be a game changer against Wisla

APOEL will be calling on their recent European experience as they look to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Wisla Krakow in the second leg of the Champions League play-off tonight.

The Nicosia side lost 1-0 in the first leg in Poland after a disappointing performance where they failed to get the valuable away goal, however APOEL are confident that home advantage in the second leg can propel them to victory.

In their previous Champions League campaign two years ago, the Cypriot champions lost 1-0 to Copenhagen in the first leg away, but pulled off a stunning performance in the return leg at the GSP stadium to go through to the group stages 3-2 on aggregate.

Rebels take over Green Square, call it “Martyrs Square”

Jubilant rebel fighters swept into the heart of Tripoli as Muammar Gaddafi’s forces collapsed and crowds took to the streets to celebrate what they saw as the rapidly approaching end of his four decades of absolute power.

Rebels waving opposition flags and firing into the air drove into Green Square, a symbolic showcase the government had until recently used for mass demonstrations in support of the now embattled Gaddafi. Rebels immediately began calling it Martyrs Square.

U.S. President Barack Obama said Gaddafi’s rule was showing signs of collapse and called on him to quit now to avoid further bloodshed.
