Puppy and kitten perish in pet shop fire

A NUMBER of animals were killed after a fire broke out at a Limassol pet shop on Thursday, the fire services said yesterday.

The blaze broke out at the Rosella pet shop on Aisopou Street at around 12.30pm. By the time fire fighters put out the blaze 30 minutes later a number of animals had already perished, including a puppy, kitten, birds and snakes, authorities said.

A devastated sounding shop owner was yesterday unable to speak about his loss.

He only managed to say the fire had started from a generator which he’d had to install to keep the electricity going to oxygenate his fish tanks, and blamed recent power cuts for the fault.

The blaze caused €30,000 worth of damage.
