Bar review:Puesta Oyster Bar and Grill, Limassol

Puesta Oyster Bar and Grill in Limassol has already attracted considerable attention on account of its fantastic cuisine. However, this chic yet unpretentious establishment with an undoubtedly advantageous location is also an excellent choice for drinks with friends.

Located right on the seafront walkway of Amathunda Avenue, Puesta is oddly inaccessible by car! Don’t worry, though, this does not mean you have to walk miles to reach it. The nearest parking place is next to nearby Dream Cafe, which is a short three minute walk from Puesta, across the walkway. Activity around this walkway does exude a sense of cosmopolitan joie de vivre that characterises contemporary seafront Limassol; and Puesta is quite representative of that lifestyle and ambience.

The atmosphere at Puesta is relaxed, with a strong focus on its natural surroundings: the sandy beach, the open skies and the surrounding trees that act as buffer from the road. There is indoor seating, but only when sitting at the outdoor deck can one truly appreciate the beauty of this spot. The music is also chilled, with jazzy and lounge tunes adding to the ambience. Throughout the summer, DJ Alex will play every Saturday and Sunday 2-7pm.

As for the drinks, the menu is truly impressive, offering just about anything. Sangria fans should try Puesta’s version, made with fresh seasonal fruit. The cocktail menu also offers a long list of Champagne Cocktails, four different Mojito versions (why not try the Mango mojito?), choice of margaritas, some lovey Caipirinhas, as well as all the ‘usual suspects’: Cuba Libre, Sex on the Beach, and Black Russian.

The drinks menu also includes Shots, Ready Mixers, Aperitif, Spirits, Champagne and Sparkling wine. The wine list is extensive, featuring a good selection of labels from Cyprus, Greece, Italy, South Africa, Australia, France and California. The selection of local and imported beer labels is equally wide, and includes non-alcoholic beer labels.

Puesta also serves coffee and freshly-squeezed fruit juices. The dessert choices are mouth-watering and well-worth an afternoon visit. I love the Oreo cookie crush sundae (€5.20) and the Chocolate Lava cake (€5.20). A waffle or a crepe with ice-cream is also a great choice.

Reservations are highly recommended, particularly for weekend evenings, when the place gets packed.
