Bar review: Guru Futuro, Nicosia

Stylish lounge bar Mukta has transformed into a new concept bar – Guru Futuro. This fresh venue is a relaxed, all-day lounge bar serving food, cocktails and music into the night.

The team behind ethnic fusion bar Guru in Ayia Napa and Guru Day Spa and Lifestyle Bar in Capo Bay has added Guru Futuro in Pallouriotissa to their other Nicosia opening, Guru in Engomi. Each Nicosia lounge bar has a distinct identity with the Engomi branch offering a healthy buffet lunch by day and live DJs, jazz and Latino music by night. Although Guru Futuro is also a day to night venue too, it has a different aesthetic.

The colourful lifestyle bar has surreal touches such as butterflies floating across the ceiling, as well as design features inspired and collected from across the world. As the name suggests, the design concept is based on the idea of a globalised future where ethnic elements will be a part of our everyday lives. “Exoticism of cultures and religions around the world will be lost because we’ll have absorbed them. We’ll have replaced them with joy and freedom of thinking which is what the colourful environment and minimal ethnic approach is about,” explains owner, Paris Christofides.

The lounge bar is a place for chilled days as well as glittering cocktail-fuelled nights. Outside there is a garden bed and seating space, here customers can peruse a selection of lifestyle books while sipping their coffee. The venue will also host international art exhibitions occasionally too. As day turns to night there’s a lunch and dinner menu, a vast selection of cocktails and performances from top live DJs on the decks.

With its refreshing aesthetic, Guru Futuro looks set to be the place for fun loving Nicosians to unwind in the city this summer. After the soft opening in April, Guru Futuro will hold the official opening party this Friday, May 13.
