Libyan foreign minister coming to Cyprus

Libyan Foreign Minister  Abdelati Obeidi is to visit Cyprus to meet Cypriot Foreign Minister Markos Kyprianou, Cypriot government spokesman Stefanos Stefanou said today.

“This visit is at his own initiative, as he visited Greece,  Turkey and Malta, he is also visiting Cyprus. He wants to meet with the foreign minister,” Stefanou told Reuters.

His promotion to the foreign minister’s post was announced on April 5 after his predecessor Moussa Koussa defected and flew to Britain.

Obeidi earlier this month ended a foreign tour to Greece, Malta and Turkey to set out the Libyan government position.

The Tunisian press agency, quoting its correspondent, said Obeidi travelled through the main transit point of Ras Jdir on the Tunisian-Libyan border and continued northwest to Djerba airport en route to Cyprus.
