Poor Sam Cam……

I know we all complain about our husbands at times. And some women have more reason to complain than others. If I were Sam Cam, I would have told David to stop calling himself Dave a long time ago (it really is irritating). And I think I would be seriously considering why I had married him at all, if the best he could do for my 40th birthday was a cheap flight to Spain on Ryanair……..

An ex-pat returning to Spain took the photo of the happy couple in the Ryanair departure lounge at Stansted, last week. He apparently noticed them because of the expensive matching hand luggage (Longchamp), and presumably the fact that they appeared to be sitting on their own. Whoever gets half a departure lounge to themselves on a budget airline? And the happy snapper confirmed that they didn’t get on the plane until the end. So clearly Dave didn’t even want to pay for speedy boarding. However, I am sure that Sam and Dave probably got seats reserved anyway, being the PM and all. He may have been trying to behave like a chav but he probably didn’t want to actually sit next to any really poor people.

What was his point, anyway? The Government is introducing austerity measures left, right and centre; the whole country is suffering and we all have to tighten our belts, even the PM? If I were Sam, I would have argued that the Government isn’t paying for her 40th birthday treat, Dave is and surely he can afford an upgrade on BA? Or was this some back-handed apology to the people of Sheffield? Oliver Letwin had said a few days earlier that the Government didn’t want any “more people from Sheffield flying away on cheap holidays.” Why not exactly? I know posh people like Mr Letwin probably don’t like northerners enjoying themselves, especially in a recession, but there really is nothing pleasurable about flying with a budget airline.

And if the no frills airline wasn’t enough, Dave was spotted out in Spain in a pair of shorts and white trainers. I couldn’t tell the make of the trainers from the photos but that is less important than the fact that he was wearing them at all on a romantic weekend away. If I were Sam, I would be seriously reconsidering the relationship. I would certainly never vote for him again, if this is what a bit of power has turned him into, a total chav! In a similar tale, my daughter told me only a few days ago, that she was seriously considering breaking up with her boyfriend. Why? Because the sun came out, and he turned up at hers in a pair of denim jeans and white trainers. Basically she told him she didn’t want to be seen out in public with a man dressed like a chav. Good for her, I said, start as you mean to go on.

It may of course have been an easier conversation for my daughter. Her and the BF have only been going out for a few months. Sam Cam and Dave have been an item for quite a while and have had four kids together. She has already invested a lot in the relationship; maybe leaving him at this point in her life is not an option. But I bet she was seriously fed up with him; she certainly looked it n the photo at Stansted. Dave might be doing a reasonable job as PM, but as a husband, he has a long way to go….
