Remand in case of attempted murder

POLICE were yesterday investigating a case of attempted murder against a 48-year-old man from Limassol, who was apparently stabbed in an altercation with his daughter’s boyfriend.

Even though the police could not confirm the personal relations between the two, they did say the middle aged man was in serious condition at Limassol General Hospital, after being stabbed during a fight with a 21-year-old man, also from Limassol.

According to police, “At around 2.30am (yesterday), the 48-year-old visited the 21-year-old at his home in Limassol, accompanied by two other persons.” It added that the two came to blows on the 21-year-old’s veranda, before falling into the road in front of the house. During the scuffle, the young man took out a knife and stabbed the 48-year-old in the chest.

“The injured man was taken to Limassol General Hospital where he underwent surgery and was kept in for treatment,” said the police. “According to his doctors, his condition is serious but stable.”

The 21-year-old, who was also treated for head injuries, handed himself and his knife into police.

He was yesterday arrested and questioned, before being placed in remand.

Media reported that the young suspect was in a relationship with the 48-year-old’s daughter and the two didn’t see eye to eye.
