Wins for Flames and Amdocs in Cyprus Cricket League

THE European University Flames and Amdocs recorded wins in the latest round of the Cyprus Cricket League.

After winning the toss, the Flames decided to bat first at the Potamia Ground in Nicosia where they faced the Fellows, led by national team captain Mike Kyriakou, who made early inroads into the fragile Flames top order and reduced them to 53 runs for four wickets.

An innings of 65 from the Flames’ Jaimin Patel helped them recover, to post a challenging total of 170 runs after 32 overs.

Unfortunately for the Fellows, none of their batters, apart from Raja Muneeb, made a serious contribution to their total and they were eventually bowled out for 139 runs in the 33rd over. The defeat is a big blow to the Fellows, who were hoping for a place in the final with a win in the crucial tie against the university students from Nicosia.

Elsewhere, at the Dhekelia Cricket Ground, the Amdocs batted first and scored an improbable total of 245 runs for the loss of nine wickets against title hopefuls Dhekelia.

The main run getters for the Amdocs were Raghu Juluri (40), Amandeep Bharadwaj (40), and Reddy Kancharla (30).

For the Dhekelia side, Babar Ayub took three wickets in an otherwise ordinary bowling performance from the hosts.

A win for Dhekelia would have ensured them a place in the final, whereas, the Amdocs also wanted to end their campaign on a high note as a win would help them avoid the wooden spoon. The hosts started brightly in their reply and were cruising towards the target with 100 runs on the board and only one wicket down.

However, Vibhor Bharadwaj and Shiv Prakash combined well for the Amdocs and the Dhekelia side astonishingly collapsed to 110 all out in 24 overs.

The 135-run win for the Amdocs helped the Mustangs reach the final, instead of Dhekelia.
