Suspects sought in alleged beating of Vietnamese woman

POLICE ARE still searching for a 28-year-old woman and two male accomplices, who allegedly kidnapped, beat and abused a 36-year-old Vietnamese woman.

A 50-year-old man was already arrested and remanded for four days on Sunday in connection with the same case, while yesterday police managed to identify another of the men involved and have since issued a warrant for his arrest.

“We are looking for three individuals that are accused of beating a Vietnamese worker. We know the identity of one of the men and we hope to arrest him soon, another man has been in our custody since Sunday,” said police spokesman Michael Katsounotos said:

The woman started working for the 50-year-old man on December 2 but after a disagreement she was sent to work for a 28-year-old woman.

A police spokesman said: “According to the Vietnamese woman on Saturday at around 6.30pm the 28-year-old woman and two men kidnapped her and took her to a barn located on a farm in a Limassol village.”

Once in the barn they allegedly tied the woman, gagged her and proceeded to viciously beat her, before leaving her locked in the barn. The Vietnamese woman however managed to escape and call for help.

The police spokesman said: “She filed a complaint with us on Saturday night and her original employer, the 50-year-old was arrested a few hours later.”

State pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous then examined the woman who found that she had injuries all over her body, as well as bruises and abrasions where the suspects had tied her hands, legs and mouth.

The spokesman confirmed that the men and the 28-year-old woman could be facing charges of conspiracy to commit a felony, kidnapping a person, causing actual bodily harm and illegal employment.

A woman was arrested on Sunday night in connection to the same case however she released without charges a few hours later, after the Vietnamese woman failed to identify her as one of the assailants.
