Young Pavlos responds to US treatment but more money needed

FIVE-YEAR-OLD Pavlos Kleovolou dubbed the “little angel” is currently in Boston, slowly responding to medical care that his parents hope will save his life and hopefully eventually help him lead a comfortable life.

The family estimate that they now need a total of €1 million for the treatment in America and would be eternally grateful for any additional contributions that help save their little angel.

The boy has been in Boston Children’s Hospital since August 10 where he is constantly monitored by doctors specialised in gastrointestinal mobility and functional gastrointestinal disorders.

The doctors say that Pavlos response to the treatment has been gradual, while the drug therapy is constantly monitored by a team of experts including a psychologist, occupational therapist and speech pathologist.

The Children’s Hospital in Boston represents the final chance to save Pavlos life and a gigantic effort was made to raise the required €500,000 required for admission to the Children’s Hospital, the money was raised from family savings and charity events.  Pavlos was born prematurely in 2005 to Lambros and Gianna Kleovoulou from Dhali; he is the youngest of four children.  The boy has been troubled with a sequence of health problems since birth; at the age of two months he developed intolerance to food which led to vomiting. Doctors in Cyprus, Glasgow, London and Israel have failed to successfully diagnose his condition.

As he got older the condition worsened, leaving the boy unable to consume any food or liquids. The brave boy has never eaten solid food and is instead fed exclusively by special vitamin milk which is not available on the market. Since then the Pavlos has been transferred to numerous hospitals abroad, undergoing many treatments and two operations, which have caused further problems to his health.

The government although supportive has not funded his trip to America, Andri Tsavella a member of the Kleovolou family support group said: “The Health Ministry has been very helpful, however they wanted to send him back to England once more to carry out the same procedures and this is not what the family think is best for Pavlos.”

The family have been grateful for contributions to save their sons life and have released the following statement:  “We thank each individual person who contributed any amount for Pavlos, large or small. With their contribution, all these people give life to our little angel. The value of these contributions is greatly valued, as these funds come exclusively from citizens of Cyprus.”

Anyone who wishes and is able to help Pavlos can deposit money into Bank of Cyprus account 0109-05-016607-00 (name Gianna Kleovoulou-Pavlos Kleovoulou).
