Nominations sought for Paphos hearts of gold award 2010

NOMINATIONS are now being accepted for the 2010 Paphos hearts of gold award.

The community-based award is now in its fourth year, and successful nominees will be presented with their solid gold handmade heart and certificate by the patron, the mayor of Paphos Savvas Vergas, at an event to be held at the Town Hall.

The award, which is open to everyone who is a resident of Paphos, aims to recognise those individuals who are extra-special in some way, either by their work within the community, or for charity, or perhaps because they have overcome obstacles or tragedies in their life with a smile.

There are two categories: the junior heart of gold award for those under eighteen, and the heart of gold award for adults.

The gold award is a hand-crafted solid gold heart on a pin, created and donated by Aphrodite jewellers, which the recipient will keep. A list of nominees will be released to the press, prior to the final decision and available to the public on request.

Among the previous winners was 10-year-old Jasmitha Marharajasingh in 2008 for her bravery in the face of her long treatment for a brain tumour which required months of hospitalisation in Israel.

If you would like to nominate someone in Paphos, please send a short description of the person you’re nominating and the reasons for their nomination, not exceeding 200 words, along with your name and contact details to the address below.

The panel of judges, whose decision is final, will choose the recipients. The mayor will present the 2010 awards at a ceremony in January 2011.
