CCTV cameras should be installed in forest areas

To reward my dog for not killing a pellet-wounded pigeon, I got up at 4am and drove him to the mountains of Mosfiloti. After parking my car, we walked the hilly dirt road towards the beautiful tree-dressed mounts.

The instant we were visually clear of the road, it turned into a paper chase of dumped mattresses wooden pallets, builder’s rubble, visitor’s empty cans etc.

The local authority should install warning signs at every forest entry road, and a shot proof surveillance solar powered camera, mounted six metres high on top of every mountain.

This will also prove vital for fire surveillance and a deterrent for arsonists. Surely if we can buy a €28 mobile that can visually record and transmit, is it beyond Nokia’s technology to make cheap versions to be triggered into operation by changes and transmit this information for forest problems?

Every driver of a vehicle carrying rubbish to the mountain should be heavily fined no matter what his excuses, the same way it is an offence in many countries for anyone entering a bank to wear a crash helmet.

The pretext that lack of money prohibits the above is not necessarily applicable because many volunteers like me are willing to fit the signs for free if they were supplied.
