My wife and I are EU citizens who have been teaching overseas for many years and enjoy our summer holidays spent at our house in Cyprus.
Last month my wife gave birth to our third child. Our first two children were born in China but our third was born here in Cyprus.
I live in Paphos and I’m a regular reader of your daily and Sunday papers. Kings of Trance by Bejay Browne was a particularly good read which transported you to the events. Apart from features her reports are also very good and balanced. So, congratulations to her and to you of course.

I just made a search to see if anyone saw a UFO on August 22 over Larnaca at around 7.20pm, It was almost a full moon and the wife gave me binoculars to look at it, but this black object was moving towards us. It had no lights and was moving erratically.
It seemed quite high up and must have been around 10-15ft in size when I looked at it through the binoculars it was black or dark grey metal no markings and oval shaped it tilted to one side then turned out towards the sea until it disappeared.
I am concerned about the increase in stone quarrying which is taking place in and around the village of Androlikou. The village is at the southern end of a limestone plateau, which extends north towards the coast at Latsi and lies within the Akamas National Park. The area is notable for the deep gorges in the plateau, the Androlikou Gorge in the east being the largest and longest, and the Petratis Gorge in the west, the most beautiful and impressive.
It is also notable, although less well-known, for the fact that the plateau and the gorges have been inhabited since Neolithic times, and possibly earlier, as evidenced by stone tools and pottery fragments which have been found in the area.
Your final comments on the readers’ page (Sunday Mail August 29) that our establishment is comfortable with the status quo and failure is a win-win situation, must have been copied straight out of a Turkish paper dedicated to propaganda.
It does not follow with the Mail’s previous warnings that we are losing our rights due to delays in a reaching a solution.
The prime example is Israel, which has used delays to establish settlements in areas that were due to be returned had a peace deal been achieved.
Cyprus became an independent island state on August 16, 1960. It is a member of the UN and the EU. It bothers me when I see Greek and Turkish flags everywhere and most people calling themselves a Greek or Turkish Cypriot. It’s time to implement the Belgian model of one nationality with two official languages. Most Belgians do not go around saying they are French or Dutch they say Belgian.
It’s time for Cypriots of all backgrounds to come together as one people, create a new national anthem, a new flag a new constitution and begin the process of moving forward as a united island.
