Woman who fell from balcony found drowned

A WOMAN from Thailand was yesterday found dead in a villa pool in Peyia, just hours after having a heated row with her estranged husband.

The 29-year-old woman, who was mother to a five-year-old boy, had fallen off the second floor of her husband’s villa balcony.

But according to the 47-year-old British man, who is a permanent resident in Cyprus, she fell next to the pool, he checked if she was okay and said she was fine straight after the incident. He later returned to the pool, where he found her lifeless body floating in the water.

State pathologist Sophocles Sophocleous ruled out any criminal acts, initially with an autopsyat the scene and later during the post-mortem on the body.

According to the 47-year-old’s statement to police, it all started with a heated row after his estranged Thai wife arrived from her homeland to try and patch their marriage up.

As the row escalated – and some alcohol was consumed – the 29-year-old mother jumped off the two-storey balcony, her husband claimed.

The man said he rushed to see if she was all right and when she responded that she was fine, and pushed him away as he tried to reconcile with her, he decided to go off to bed.

When he woke up a few hours later, the 47-year-old Briton said he went back downstairs to the pool, where he found his wife drowned.

Based on Sophocleous’ report, police have ruled out the possibility of a criminal offence.
