One of the ‘old timers’ of the Paphos nightlife scene, Rainbow has been around for many years. It is open from around midnight until very late but people only start to go there around 2am and most people go even later.
This is the place to go after other establishments close and it’s fair to say most clubbers will be on the ‘tiddly’ side. The crowd is a good mixture of locals and tourists and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. But you will inevitably see a smattering of drunken foul-mouthed tourists, both male and female, staggering up the stairs and out into the blazing sunshine in the early hours.
Don’t be put off by this though, as a visit to Rainbow is an experience. Music is a total mixture of RnB, trance, garage and MCing – some rather good and some diabolical.
The clientele is across the board. Youngsters rub shoulders with the 20s, 30s and 40s age groups quite happily and the dress code is casual.
As you would expect by the use of ‘disco’ in its name, Rainbow has been around for decades, and despite the graffitied toilet doors and bins, which are overflowing by the end of the night, the rather dated club still manages to pull the crowds. There’s something rather familiar about the place, which is accessed by a staircase leading you underground.
Most locals don’t go to Rainbow for an evening out, but instead use it as an evening’s finale. They will tell you the Rainbow bubble encases them and they feel suspended in the whole experience. It can be very disorientating emerging bleary eyed into the summer sunshine. But on the other hand, many tourists do spend the whole evening at the club and get to know the friendly staff and regulars. Drinks here are nothing special but are reasonably priced and won’t break the holiday budget.
Rainbow often puts on themed and party nights and uses the services of well-established DJs. The dance floor is always heaving and many people enjoy watching themselves dancing on screens around the room.
Local celebrities and sportsmen frequent Rainbow and this is definately a place to go and meet people who are always in a party mood by the time they arrive. A classic club and a great, fun experience.
