You know summer has arrived in Paphos when Barrio del Mar – known to everyone as ‘Summer’ – opens its doors.
This popular summer club is set in a prime location on the beachfront in Yeroskipou and has long been established as the place to dance away sultry nights in the seaside town.
Opened in 1997 by well-known Paphos businessman Evros, the club has a capacity for up to 1,800.
Evros was also responsible for designing the minimal chic interior, which is mostly white and serves as a good backdrop for the club’s lights, which illuminate the five bars and raised podium.
Entrance to the summer club is free for regulars and the movers and shakers of Paphos, but the rest of the ‘hoi polloi’ will have to pay €12 to get in.
The beautiful people go here and although the club is set next to the sea, dress is trendy and fashionable.
Evros is aiming the club at the 19 to 40 age group, and with a good spectrum of music and events, he ensures that it is filled up summer after summer.
This is the place to go and dance and enjoy a refreshing drink with your friends. It’s also the place to go and meet that special summer love and rub shoulders with the elite from other towns across the island, who often visit ‘Summer’ at weekends.
Many a celebrity has been spotted in the venue over the last 13 years, and a number of Greek singers and well-known DJs are already booked to perform during the coming months.
The club will be open all week with the exception of Monday and Tuesday during the height of the season, and a special Sunday event titled ‘Summer Vibes’ will take place every other Sunday from 3 to 9pm.
Music is mainstream Greek and international and resident DJs – DJ Nick and DJ Jack – are established on the music scene in Paphos.
Evros believes Barrio del Mar club is different from others as it’s situated 4km from the centre of town by the beach; and he points out, it’s an ideal location for partying.
Whether its because of the knowledge the Med is only metres away or the fact that the stars glitter above, party goers lose their inhibitions at ‘Summer’ and dance all night as warm evenings envelope them.
This is a summer experience not to be missed.
