Light show raises money for Charity

AN Oroklini couple has raised over €1,000 for local charities this holiday season with a dazzling light and festive ornament display.

Rosie and Eric Bone, a retired couple from Oroklini, have received €1,100 in donations so far, and hope to raise a further €200 with a forthcoming raffle and music event on January 6.

Rosie Bone said yesterday “We are really pleased to have raised this much. Last year we raised €936. After the raffle on the 6th we will share the money between the Argos dog shelter, a breast cancer charity and children with special needs.”

Over the holidays the couple have also received 50 gifts to be entered into the raffle.

The Bones’ lights display took nearly two weeks to put up and contains an estimated 10,000 lights, together with moving reindeer and a small troop of Santas. “This year we brought an extra €300 worth lights over from England, where we did the same thing for the NSPCC every year.”

The festive duo have paid for all of the lights and ornaments out of their own pocket and expect to pay around €350 for their electricity for the period.

Asked if they had had any help to put up the lights, Rosie Bone said “Our neighbours offered to help us, but we decided to do it ourselves, as it’s a bit dangerous.”

The lights will be on display at Adamantiou Korai 3 in Oroklini until January 7, from 5pm until 9pm. The display is visible from the road between Larnaca and Dekelia. The fundraiser will take place at JJ’s Bar in Galaxia, and feature live music from local singer, Ross Neil.
