Charity CD raises money for cancer sufferers

A NEWLY available CD by a classically trained performer aims to raise money for cancer sufferers across the island.

Judith Evans Davies, a local Paphos businesswoman, has recorded the charity CD, with all profits going to the Friends hospice of Paphos, the Saint Michaels hospice building fund and the breast cancer awareness campaign.

Davies told the Cyprus Mail,’ I decided to record this CD for a number of reasons. I think all three charities are worthwhile causes and in addition, I knew the late Marilenna Solomou who was a wonderful soprano. She sadly died of breast cancer at a young age.’

Davies added that cancer is a disease which touches many lives, and that she wanted to be able to do something to help the community.

‘I have lived here in Paphos for the past six years; I love it here and I wanted to give something back,’ she said.

Davies is a successful businesswoman – the proprietor of The Paphos Post newspaper and Revival fashion clothing agency. But she still finds the time to sing in her church every Sunday morning.

‘I am what’s called a worship leader and I sing at with the Christian fellowship International in Paphos every Sunday. It helps keep my vocal chords exercised.’

The CD is the second that Davies has made in Cyprus, and it only took her one afternoon to record the whole thing.

‘The CD was recorded at a professional studio in Paphos and for some of the songs, I had an organist,’ she said.

The title of the musical offering is ‘Such Love’ and Davies describes it as easy listening classical music. Including such hits as Ave Maria, Pie Jesu and the Power of Love, Davies said she hopes to spread love and peace through her interpretation of these well known songs.

‘Although there are a couple of seasonal songs on it, this CD is suitable for playing all year round,’ she said.

The singer is originally from Wales and is classically trained. She has acted in a number of professional theatrical productions in her home country, including Madame Butterfly.

Davies was also the star performer at the Pafiakos annual event held in aid of the animal charity this week that was at Artios in Paphos.

‘Such love,’ is priced at €6.00 and is available form Revival fashion agency, Hearnes bookshop and Gina’s place in Paphos.
