Arrests in suspected bank robbery

THREE PEOPLE were arrested in Paphos yesterday in connection with charges of attempting to break into a bank. The three, aged 35, 38 and 39 all come from Limassol.
Police were tipped off at around 1.30am yesterday that a suspicious-looking person with a covered face had been seen walking around the Paphos Central Co-op Bank. Police arrived at the scene to find that the shop situated next to the bank had been broken into. At the same time, they saw two people wearing hoods coming out of a nearby car and walk towards the shop entrance.
When police intercepted them, one of the men got back in the car and tried to escape. Two policemen were injured before they could eventually immobilise the man. A third man was found inside the burgled shop. Police say they found numerous devices on their persons and in the car that could have been used to commit a burglary. The three reportedly confessed to police that they had broken into the shop with the aim of entering the bank next door. Paphos CID is investigating.
