Energy chiefs to meet on Action Plan

ENERGY REGULATORS from both banks of the Mediterranean will be meeting in Cyprus this Friday to define their 2010-2012 Action Plan.

The plan aims at developing the regulatory framework necessary for the creation of a stable, harmonised and integrated Euro-Mediterranean energy market that will provide the maximum benefits to energy consumers in both regions.

According to a press release, the Energy Regulators would come together for the 8th General Assembly of the Association of Mediterranean Regulators for Electricity and Gas (MED-REG), co-funded by the EU.

The President of MED-REG, Chairman of the Italian Regulatory Authority for Electricity and Gas, Alessandro Ortis, said the General Assembly offered “an occasion not only to focus on and approve the work carried out by the four MED-REG ad hoc Groups but also to share and agree on the work and targets for the next years through the approval of the new Action Plan 2010-2012”.

The four ad hoc Groups deal with Institutional Issues; Electricity; Gas; Environment, Renewable Energy Sources and Energy Efficiency.

MED-REG aims to develop a modern and efficient regulatory framework, one of the necessary conditions for an integrated Euro-Mediterranean energy market and infrastructure development.

The Mediterranean Energy Regulators will convene at the Hilton Hotel in Nicosia this Friday.
