Animal rights groups report Cyprus zoos to EU

CYPRUS HAS been reported to the EU for non-enforcement of directives relating to national law on zoos.

The European network to end the keeping of wild animals in captivity (ENDCAP), and local animal rights group ARC reported Cyprus on the grounds that none of the approximately ten zoos operating on the island meet requirements set by the EU.

Deputies shy away from proposal that would encourage illegal bird trapping

STATE AND non-government organisations yesterday reiterated their opposition to a law proposal that would in fact encourage illegal bird trapping if passed.

The proposal, submitted to the committee by Famagusta and Larnaca deputies aims in amending the current hunting law to, among other things, enable on-the-spot fines for people caught trapping birds with limesticks.
