New name, same old name

Apart from the cost of changing all the road signs and businesses being put to the expense of printing new stationery, turning Athalassa Avenue into Tassos Papadopoulos Avenue will have no effect on anyone.
People will still refer to it as Athalassa Avenue 20 years after the renaming, in the same way that the junction of Athalassa Avenue with Limassol Avenue is still referred to as the Kalisperas traffic lights, after a building that was knocked down donkeys years ago!
So what is the point?
