Run for Gambia

OVER 120 people are expected to take part in a 5km sponsored run/walk today in Paphos to raise money for the construction of a bore hole and water tank in a Gambian village.

Run for Gambia supports Cycle For Gambia Cyprus 2009 – a seven-day, 750km cycle ride around Cyprus by four local Paphos residents who have taken on the challenge to bring clean and safe water to a community of 600 people in one of Africa’s poorest countries by raising €60,000 for PINK Charity.

Organisers are expecting Run For Gambia to make a significant contribution to their €60,000 target. Many of the participants will have been sponsored to take part.

The event will start at 5.30pm today behind the Elysium Hotel and will follow the coastal path down to the amphitheatre in the harbour and back to the Elysium. It’s a real family event with a BBQ taking place after at the Prince Pub on the Tombs of the Kings Road at 5pm.
