Bad mayonnaise blamed for food poisoning

FIVE PUPILS from Limassol’s Polemidia Lyceum checked into hospital with symptoms of food poisoning on Wednesday, after eating sandwiches they bought at the school canteen.

Food samples have been taken for analysis, the results of which are expected to be announced today, the mayonnaise in the sandwiches is believed to have caused the symptoms.

People traffickers arrested in sting

SIX PEOPLE have been arrested for smuggling illegally immigrants into Cyprus through the occupied areas, in what police believe to be a major bust in a human trafficking ring.

The people traffickers are mainly from Palestine and Iraq and all have refugee or asylum seeker status. One of the six is from Pakistan and married to a Cypriot.

Game wardens under attack

ARSONISTS yesterday targeted the car of a Larnaca game warden in the second such incident this week.

The target this time was Andreas Tyrimou whose car had been doused with petrol and set on fire while it was parked outside his home in Droshia, Larnaca.

Maid could face court over unpaid bill

MAKARIOS hospital yesterday confirmed that a housemaid earning €340 a month could be sued if she does not pay the bill for her premature baby’s intensive care.

Milagrin Lopes holds a valid work permit and has paid taxes for nine years. She received a €5,583 bill from the hospital for two months of intensive care after she went into early labour.
