Public servants are disingenuous over tax demands

It is very interesting that the leeches of the government employees are saying that they should not be affected by the current economic crisis (‘Keep your hands off CoLA’, Cyprus Mail, August 20).

They suggest that the self-employed doctors, lawyers, etc., should be targeted by the government.

I have no problem with that, but aren’t they the ones who “police” this situation? Isn’t it the members of PASYDY that work for the Inland Revenue Department that chase these people? They are obviously not doing their job (no surprise to anyone).

Should we even mention the undeclared earnings they have from their afternoon jobs or businesses they own in the name of their spouses? How much income tax would that bring in?

COLA? Cyprus is the only developed country in the world that still uses this outdated inflationary practice!
