Six-year old fighting for life after balcony fall

A SIX-YEAR-OLD boy was yesterday in critical condition after falling from his parents’ third floor balcony.

Alexandros Kyriacou, who is being treated for multiple head injuries and internal bleeding, had been under the supervision of his 20-year-old half sister at the time of the accident.

Larnaca Police Spokesman Christos Andreou said the incident took place on Wednesday night in a central spot of the coastal town.

“At around 7pm [on Wednesday], the six-year-old who was on the third floor of an apartment block in the centre of Larnaca, escaped his half sister’s attention and fell from the balcony to the ground below,” Andreou explained.

“The little boy’s half sister spotted him on the ground and rushed him to Larnaca General Hospital, where it was found he had sustained multiple head injuries and internal bleeding,” he added. “Due to the seriousness of his condition, he was taken to Nicosia General Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.”

According to the Larnaca Press Agency, Kyriacou’s parents had been at work at the time of the accident, while he was being looked after his 20-year-old Russian half sister.

While she was busy making food in the kitchen, Kyriacou went out onto the balcony and climbed up the protective railings. He fell to the ground below, while violently slamming into the second-floor balcony on the way down.

After realising what had happened, his devastated sister rushed him to Larnaca General Hospital, where Kyriacou’s injuries were deemed extremely serious and hence was transported to Nicosia.
