What’s happening in Cyprus?

We have been visiting the island for 17 years and in 2004 bought an apartment in Yeroskipou.
This year, we arrived at the new airport to pick up our hire car, as always. This time, l had booked it online in England, we were met by a young man who said his firm could not afford a stand at the new airport and he drove us to a compound at the end of road

We had booked a small car and the lad in charge said that the tank was half full and told us to bring it back empty, he then said that would be €25. l said had petrol gone up a lot since last year, he said it had, we paid and set off.

Four days later, l went to the petrol station the gauge was on empty. l put €10 in and to my surprise it half-filled the tank. l rang the company’s head office in Limassol and was told that was what they charged and that was that.

This island and its people have never ripped us off before, what’s happening?

We also noticed that prices in general have risen why? Wages haven’t risen, how are people going to manage?
