Yeroskipou ready for international beach volley tournament

THOUSANDS of people are expected to attend the CEV Challenger 2009 Beach Volley Tournament women’s event which starts tomorrow at Yeroskipou, organisers said yesterday.

Women’s teams from all over the world will compete in the qualification tournament, the quarter and semi-finals with the hope of being crowned champions in the finals that will be held on Sunday July 19.

Speaking about the major sports event, Mayor of Yeroskipou Tasos Kouzoupos said: “This has been a long process which is finally being realised with the start of the tournament this Thursday. Everything is ready as planned and nothing has been left to chance. We are very optimistic that we will once again organise a great tournament that will identify Cyprus worldwide as the ideal location to host such a formidable sport event. It also signifies our efforts to develop Cyprus into a world class sport tourism destination.”

Sponsors of the event include the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), OPAP Cyprus, KEO, cytamobile-vodafone, the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (AHK), MEDCO Construction Ltd, J. Aristodemou Ideal Homes Ltd., Geroskipou COOP and Constantinou Bros Hotels.

The tournament is also supported by Louis Hotels, Hotel Riu Cypria Maris, Aqua Mare Hotel, Aliathon Holiday Village and Paphos Gardens Hotel, and instant coffee illy issimo.

The tournament will be broadcast live in Cyprus by TV Plus and in many of the countries of participating teams.
