Man arrested for allegedly murdering girlfriend

A Turkish Cypriot man, said to be around 35 years old, was arrested last night for the suspected murder of his Romanian girlfriend.

According to initial police reports, the man, who lives in Potamia (Nicosia), is said to have confessed to strangling the woman – said to be of the same age – and thrown her body down a well in the village.

Shortly after his arrest, units from the Fire Service and Criminal Investigation Department started a search of the well the suspect had named, but by 10pm had not yet located the woman’s body.
