Lives threatened by nightclub bomb

A DAYTIME bomb explosion at Temptation club in the Yermasoyia tourist area of Limassol over the weekend has increased fears of public safety.

The high-intensity bomb exploded at 5pm on Saturday in a busy area, with hundreds of people in the vicinity.

The explosion took place at the entrance of the club on Ambelakion Street, just off the main seafront road. Dozens of pedestrians and cars were passing by at the time of the explosion, but luckily there were no victims. However, extensive damage was caused to the club’s entrance, while the windows of neigbouring buildings were also shattered.

Although the frequency of bomb explosions in Limassol has been steadily increasing, the latest incident raised concern as bombers now appear to disregard the threat to human lives. Police believe that the culprits wanted to give a message to the club’s owner and suspect that two youths seen riding a motorcycle outside the club may be linked to the bombing.

In their statements to police, the club’s owners said that they have no suspects for the attack.

“Police are investigating all possibilities, focusing our search on possible business or personal differences the owners have with third persons,” said Marinos Angelides, Limassol Police spokesman.
