Kamares medical clinic has worked wonders for me

I read with some despondency the article in the June 21 issue of the Sunday Mail, which originated from a scheme member who did not even have the courage or common courtesy to give his or her name.

My experience as a frequent user of the clinic is that it is very much alive and well and providing me with the protection I need. The one and only problem appears to be that the doctor, who operated the morning GP service Monday to Friday resigned for family reasons, leaving the centre without this service while a new doctor is engaged by the Iasis Hospital.
Unfortunately, the Cypriot culture is not to keep people properly informed: if you live here, you have to accept this. People assume that everyone will find out eventually by whatever source.

My understanding – which came through asking the question not moaning about it – is that the hospital is in the process of looking for a new doctor to be in place as soon as possible. In the meantime the GP surgery will operate Wednesdays only – but the 24/7 Emergency Response System continues unchanged.

I own a villa in Kamares but live and work in the UK, coming to Cyprus twice a year for the months of June and December. Four years ago I was diagnosed with a serious heart complaint and I need regular twice weekly check-ups for blood pressure, ECG, etc. plus an on-call, reliable and speedy response service in case of emergency.

For two years had to cancel my visits to Cyprus as the emergency services available did not provide the necessary back up that I needed.

With the introduction of the Kamares Medical Centre all of this changed, an excellent and reliable service became available, after which my regular pilgrimages to Cyprus could start again.

I can only thank, with all my heart, the three people responsible for setting up this clinic, who have given a great deal of their time and I believe money in establishing it and now ensuring its ongoing viability as unpaid and, reading last Sunday’s article, unappreciated trustees.
