A small, green point on recycling in Paphos

Your article “Recycling comes to Paphos” (Cyprus Mail, June 2), erroneously states that “the collection of recyclable materials started in Paphos district” in June.

While I’m very glad to hear that Green Dot is now collecting recyclable material in Paphos, I would like to point out that Cans For Kids has been collecting and recycling metal (primarily aluminium cans) in the Paphos area for well over a decade.

A registered charity founded in 1990, Cans For Kids also collects from Polis, Ayia Napa, Larnaca and many outlying villages and communities in addition to all the major urban centres.

Any profits accruing from our activities are ploughed back into the community through the purchase of medical equipment for the children’s wards at the Makarios Hospital, the central paediatric hospital in Cyprus which treats seriously ill children from all over the island.

To date we have donated over €250,000 worth of equipment to the hospital.

You will find a list of our island-wide collection points at www.cansforkids.org
