You take the good with the bad when holidaying here

In reference to the letter by an Erimi resident (‘You can’t hike prices if it’s quiet’, Letters, June 7), I couldn’t agree more with your statement regards prices in Cyprus.

I used to live in Erimi village but left in 2005 and returned to England. I could see that the writing was on the wall regards prices as it drew nearer to Cyprus joining the EU.

I still return twice a year as I love the island and the people. I have just returned from Cyprus and I stayed with friends in Finikaria village. They also have the same problem of prices just going sky high. But a lot of the residents have voted with their feet, by finding another watering hole or staying indoors and having a few drinks with the neighbours.

Even in the supermarkets you have to shop around, as we found that overall food is still cheaper than England.

But where else in the world can you find a store manager who has run out of something who phones his supplier and tells you that the item you want will be in his store in 20 minutes? On the other hand, I agree regards the prices going up.

We spoke to bar and restaurant owners and they all said the same. Unfortunately, that’s the way the locals think and I don’t think you will ever change them.

At the end of the day, I just love Cyprus and it’s people and I will continue to visit twice a year.
