Views from the streets:

” I used to support the socialists, and then last time I voted left. This time I will vote Green and I hope my wife will too. The politicians in this country are awful, but I can see the Greens are fighting every day for the good of the citizens.” Chris Georgiou, Paphos.

“No, I won’t be voting I’m afraid. I did see the election adverts a few months ago and though I really should do something about it and get involved, but I didn’t get round to it in the end.” Patricia Thomas, Nicosia.

“I am not going to be voting this Saturday. I feel that the Euroelections are pointless as there is no real effect on policy in Cyprus.” Scott Hudson, 23, Limassol.

“The election campaign was very bad. The big parties of AKEL and DISY are not interested in the people, their only interest is who will come out on top. I will vote for independent Andreas Efstratiou, he’s crazy but he’s honest.” Andreas Polycarpou, Paphos.

“I don’t why but I just can’t be bothered. I voted in the [Annan] referendum and I vote in the presidential and parliamentary elections here but I don’t see any point in this. Whatever Europe wants to do it will do anyway.” Sarah Reading, 45, Larnaca.

“I will be voting for Kassoulides, I think he does a good job.” Maria Hadjidemitriou, Paphos.

“I will be voting this Saturday and although it may be true that the European Parliament does not have a lot of power, it is the only chance European citizens get to vote,” said Bojana Savin, 30, Limassol.

“I shall be voting for EDEK because my whole family always do. They are the best party.” Panicos Antoniades Paphos,

“No I won’t be voting. First of all I think it is a waste of time. Secondly, I think MEPs are paid stupid amounts of money to do nothing. Thirdly, I’m going on holiday for Kataklysmos and there is no way in the world I would alter my plans just to vote in this election,” Jacqueline Diemidio, Larnaca.

“I’ve been so busy, I didn’t register to vote.” Chris Hopkins, Paphos.

“Yes I will be voting, but I’m still not sure who for. I’ll probably just go for the Green Party or something.” Helen Green, Nicosia

“The election campaign has passed me by, but I shall be voting for the Green Party as energy issues are so important to Cyprus.” Ian Alexander, Paphos.

“I don’t speak Greek and there was not enough information available in English about the European elections. I do not know the candidates well so I don’t think there is any point in voting,” Mary Adamou, 45, Limassol.
