Police seek leads after savage Ayia Napa beating

AYIA NAPA police are looking for a group of men in connection with a violent assault on a British tourist.

The 23-year-old man was found beaten, semi-conscious and bruised near Ayia Napa on Wednesday night.

He is continuing to receive medical treatment at Nicosia General Hospital.

The victim has still to give a full statement to police, but it is believed he was forced into a car on Nissi Avenue, beaten and then thrown out as the car was still moving.

“He is not in danger, we believe that 4 or 5 people attacked him, we still have to find the exact location of the attack and we will learn more when we talk to the victim,” a Famagusta CID spokesman told the Cyprus Mail.

A hospital source confirmed the man had been moved from a Paralimni clinic to Nicosia and had sustained several fractures and a serious head wound after the beating.

“It appears to be an unprovoked attack and as yet we have no information about the attackers,” the spokesman added.

A motive for the attack remained unknown last night.
