Women with H1N1 is recovering well

THE 39-year-old Moldovan woman with H1N1 is recovering well and should return home soon, the Health Services said yesterday.

Infectious disease specialist Dr Chrystalla Hadjianastasiou said the patient was responding to treatment and that her flu symptoms had started to subside.

Five in hospital with Staphylococcus virus

FIVE PEOPLE who are carriers of the Staphylococcus virus have been admitted to Larnaca general hospital and quarantined in the last few days, the Cyprus News Agency reported yesterday.

The five all came from old people’s homes and private clinics and have ended up in the intensive care unit, surgery and orthopaedic ward of the hospital.

Bicommunual clean up group disturbed by beach rubbish

A BICOMMUNAL group of environmentalists have expressed their outrage at the amount of rubbish they found on Lara Beach’s protected turtle breeding grounds in Paphos at the weekend.

The group, consisting of around 30 Greek and Turkish Cypriots, who first met in Brussels under the auspices of the EU, visited the Akamas to carry out the beach clean up.

Who bought big into BoC shares?

BANK of Cyprus (BoC) may have a new big shareholder, after an exceptionally high volume of BoC shares were traded trading on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE) on Friday.

The price of BoC shares surged on the ASE following the bank’s inclusion in an international share index operated by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI).

Recycling comes to Paphos

COLLECTION of recyclable materials started in Paphos district yesterday. Eight areas are included in the first phase of the ambitious scheme, operated by the recycling company Green Dot.

The municipalities of Paphos, Yeroskipou and Peyia and the communities of Chlorakas, Kissonerga, Mesoyi, Tala and Emba are participating in the scheme.
