Love your neighbor

DANCING, games and barbecue will be part of festivities for European Neighbors’ Day will converge on Nicosia this Saturday, with a host of events and children’s activities lined up

European Neighbours’ Day is an initiative of the European Federation of Local Solidarity (E.F.L.S.) Its objective is to “foster community cohesion in Europe, by creating networks for exchanges on neighbourly and community practices,” according to the relevant website.

Approximately 8.5 million people will be celebrating with their neighbours in 29 countries (20 countries from the EU. More than 1000 city councils and housing organisations are officially supporting the event.

The festivities are being co-organised by the Nicosia municipality and the European Parliament bureau in Nicosia.

“These events are an initiative aimed at contributing to the creation of conditions of better communication, contact and creative co-existence among neighbors,” Nicosia Mayor Eleni Mavrou said ahead of the festivities.

A number of events are planned for Saturday, one at Kaimakli (Thermopyles Street) starting at 5pm, another at Ayios Andreas (Eleftherios Venizelos Street) beginning at 6pm.
