Cyprus’ prices itself out of the market – again

I have been following the saga over the cost of holidays in Cyprus.

I now find myself sitting at my computer trying to organise a week-long, low season holiday for myself and my wife. The plan was to come to Paphos early October to pay a surprise visit to our daughter and granddaughter, who will be holidaying there at the same time but I am sorry to say that for the third year running we cannot afford the exorbitant cost of a Cyprus holiday.

I have been comparing low cost flights and three-star or better all-inclusive accommodation and have found the results are: Turkey [4 star] £229 each, Crete [3 star] £244 each and Pafos [3 star] £410 each. In a normal credit situation, the price difference would make me seriously think do I love Cyprus that much, but in these hardened times I like many others just cannot justify paying nearly twice the price for a lower quality of accommodation.

Come on CTO, come on Cyprus Government and come on hoteliers! Get your act together and for the sake of your island compete in the open market
